Dear Friends of TheatreOne,
TheatreOne’s 2016/2017 season is about celebration and collaboration, and I invite you to celebrate and collaborate with us!
For 32 years, TheatreOne has offered Nanaimo a full slate of professional arts entertainment. This season, audiences will enjoy three Main Stage theatre offerings, three Just Kidding for Kids presentations, three Emerging Voices original play readings, and ten Fringe Flicks alternative films. TheatreOne is also proud to present the 24th annual Bite of Nanaimo on October 21st.
But that’s not all!
We will commemorate Canada’s 150th anniversary this 2017 with Canadian content in all program areas, and celebrate BC history and culture in Flotsam and Jetsam: Life on the West Coast, by the Island’s own Other Guys Theatre (Good Timber). This multimedia folk song revue featuring fascinating characters and beautiful images of our unique province hits the newly renovated VIU Malaspina Theatre stage on February 1-4th. Patrons will have further reason to rejoice at God is a Scottish Drag Queen, a screamingly funny, highly successful, one-man comedy starring divinely-inspired Vancouver actor, Mike Delamont.
We couldn’t plan such a big vision without collaborators; in addition to our staff, volunteers, Board of Directors, artists, technicians, donors, sponsors, and Festival Nanaimo, we are working with a very special local arts partner: The Port Theatre. Together, we are co-presenting the hilarious play Baskerville: a Sherlock Holmes Mystery, famed young people’s performer Fred Penner, and an edgy new series called OFFstage. This exciting venture will offer Fringe Festival-like theatrical works, perfect for the soon-to-be-realized Studio Theatre space at the Port.
But our biggest partner is you!
Purchasing tickets shows the community and outside funders the demand for professional theatre in Nanaimo, and attending our shows is enriching and entertaining. However, as ticket sales revenue covers only a fraction of our ever increasing costs, please consider making a donation to this registered federal charity – it’s easy to donate, and gratifying to help build access to the arts in our region.
With the support of our collaborators and people like you, we are sure to celebrate this season.
